Civil War SesquicentennialContradance
Step back in time to the beginning years of the Civil War.
By October 1861, 150 years ago, eleven southern states had seceeded from the Union.
Newly-installed President Lincoln called for a volunteer army. War was raging across the land. Dancing was one way to forget–if only for an evening–the fi ery trial of the Civil War. Given the chance, almost everyone danced during the time period. North and South, rich and poor, young and old, urban and rural, black and white, even slaves held balls. Come, dance with us!
