Bird Banding allows scientists to learn a tremendous amount about the natural history of birds. Thanks to many years of bird banding research, we have learned about migration patterns of most species of birds. This information has become absolutely critical for bird conservation. Banding information can show conservationists critical feeding and resting places along migratory pathways.

Bird banding has also taught us a great deal about the behavior of birds and provided important information in efforts to protect and restore bird populations throughout the world.

Banding is performed by scientists and a large network of volunteer banders.

This program explores the importance of bird banding. Participants will view birds up close, observe capture in Potter Traps, collect data, and watch the actual attachment of bands.
