SPROUTS

Preschoolers, bring your adult for some fun at The Wilderness Center!

   Wilderness Sprouts meet once each month, at 10:00 - programs usually last about an hour and a half. Sprouts is for Children 3 to 5 with an adult. $4/member; $6/nonmember; adults free.

Current Program Guide with this month's Wilderness Sprouts

January - Learn all about birds. We will pass around preserved specimens, capture and band live birds, and make a simple birdfeeder to take home.

 

February - For goodness snakes! Learn all about the snakes that live in Ohio and meet our black rat snake. We’ll also meet (and make) a rare and beautiful toilet paper tube snake.

 

March - Trees galore! We will be going on a hike to look at different types of trees, doing bark rubbings, and planting a tree seed to take home.

 

April - Leapin’ Leap Frogs! Join us as we explore the world of frogs. We’ll make frog masks and play frog games. If the weather cooperates, we will go on a search for frogs as well.

 

May - Think Spring! Hike with us through the woods in search of flowers. We’ll also be decorating flower pots and planting seeds to take home.

 

June - Butterfly Bonanza! Go on a butterfly safari and catch butterflies. We will also make a butterfly mobile to hang in your window.

 

July - no sprouts – see Summer Days (check program guide for details)

 

August - Turtle Tracks! Join us on a search for turtles at TWC’s lake and pond. We will learn all about turtles, play turtle games and make a clay turtle to take home.

 

September - Fantastic Fish! Splash around with us as we explore the world of fish. We’ll hike to the lake to watch and feed our fish, then make a fish to take home

 

October - What zips through the nighttime sky eating bugs? Bats! Join us as we discover the fascinating world of bats through slide show, games, and a special bat costume. We will make finger puppet bats to fly at home.

 

November - Star Stories. Learn all about the night sky in a planetarium show (we’ll be in the dark for about 30 minutes) and make a star poster.

 

December - Rocks Rock! We’ll explore the different colors and textures of rocks, then spend time at our rock pit where you can start your own rock collection! We'll also be making a pet rock for you to take home.
