Zoar Woods

Zoar Woods is a fascinating tract. The small parking area and trail take you through a maturing forest lush with ferns and wildflowers.

Much of Zoar Woods, however, was strip mined. Parts are completely unreclaimed. Other parts were reclaimed and restored at various times by various practices.

The trail takes you to a highwall overlook of an acidic strip mine pond. Despite past abuses, Zoar Woods offers walker opportunities to see wildlife, forests, pine plantations and an interesting mix of recovering plant communities.
