TWC’s Zoar Woods property is one of the few satellite properties of The Wilderness Center that is open to the public. This fascinating tract of land offers a trail taking you through a maturing forest, lush with ferns and wildflowers.
Much of Zoar Woods, however, was strip mined. Parts are completely unreclaimed. Other parts were reclaimed and restored at various times by various practices.
The trail takes you to a high wall overlook of an acidic strip mine pond. Despite past abuses, Zoar Woods offers walker opportunities to see wildlife, forests, pine plantations and an interesting mix of recovering plant communities.
View our Zoar Woods brochure for more information, including driving directions and a trail map.
