Zoar Woods

Zoar Woods Brochure

Zoar Woods is a fascinating tract. The small parking area and trail take you through a maturing forest lush with ferns and wildflowers.

Much of Zoar Woods, however, was strip mined. Parts are completely unreclaimed. Other parts were reclaimed and restored at various times by various practices.

The trail takes you to a highwall overlook of an acidic strip mine pond. Despite past abuses, Zoar Woods offers walker opportunities to see wildlife, forests, pine plantations and an interesting mix of recovering plant communities.

Take County Road 82 south from Zoar or north from Dover. Turn west on Township Road 380. Watch for the small Zoar Woods sign on your right. Turn n to the gravel drive and follow it to the parking area.
