Daisy Girl Scouts

Go on a nature walk, watch birds at our feeders, see a planetarium show, or design a program to fit your interests. Makes a great family outing! Call us to plan your special visit.

Brownie Girl Scouts

Space Explorer Try-It

Try lots of space activities—go stargazing in our Planetarium, see why the Moon has phases, and visit a sundial. Make and launch your own rocket! 1 hr. To complete the Try-It, do requirement # 3 or 5.

Watching Wildlife Try-It

Walk on the wild side! Learn how animals build homes, communicate, and gather food. Hike to the woods, then take a close-up look at earthworms or ants. 1 hr. Completes the Try-It.

Junior Girl Scouts

Rocks Rock Badge

Begin a rock collection! Hike to observe fossils, touch remains of a glacier, and explore a natural spring. Learn about the effects of weathering on land and what soil is made of. Bring an egg carton for each Girl Scout. 2 hrs. Completes the badge.

Sky Search Badge

Make a star map and use it to find constellatons and the North Star in our Planetarium. We’ll navigate the sky, locate planets, learn about the importance of the North Star, and hear ancient star stories. Visit the telescopes in our Observatory. 1 1/4 hrs. To complete the badge, finish #4, or do # 7, 8, 9, or 10.

Cadette & Senior Girl Scouts

All About Birds Interest Project

Use a field guide and recorded sounds to observe, identify, and make notes about local birds. Compare and use binoculars. Participate in TWC’s bird banding study. 2  1/2 hrs. Completes 2 Skill Builder and 2 Technology requirements.

Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis, but must be made at least 2 weeks prior to your visit. Contact anyone in our Education Department by phone at 877-359-5235, by e-mail to joann@wildernesscenter.org, or by mail to Education Department, The Wilderness Center, PO Box 202, Wilmot, OH, 44689-0202. Indicate date requested, program(s), time of program, number of children, and number of adults.

   $3/student/program at TWC; $75/program at your site. Additional $25/program outside of TWC's regular hours (except Star Watches). $25 travel fee for programs beyond our 4-county area (Wayne, Stark, Holmes, and Tuscarawas).  Sorry, no Sunday or Monday programs.

Service Projects

There’s lots to do at The Wilderness Center and we need volunteers of all ages to help get it done! Work the land or help with an event. Pick up litter or complete an Gold Award project. We have volunteer projects for individuals and groups. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
