Artificial light at night has revolutionized the way we live and work outdoors, but it has come at a steep price. When used indiscriminately, outdoor lighting can disrupt wildlife, impact human health, waste money and energy, contribute to climate change, and block our view of the universe. The International Dark Sky Association (IDA) is the recognized authority on light pollution and is the leading organization combating light pollution worldwide. Our keynote speaker, Adam Dalton, IDA, International Dark Sky Places Program Manager, will discuss the work of this organization and how individuals can make a difference in reducing light pollution. The IDA Ohio Chapter president will discuss their current projects and initiatives, and we will have a speaker discussing outdoor lighting, we’ll look at lighting that contributes to light pollution, provide dark sky friendly lighting options and learn how to conduct a lighting inventory of your home’s outdoor lighting. And, finally, our very own Carrie Elvey will discuss
the affects of light pollution on wildlife. Information will soon be provided on registration for the conference.
