Reading the Landscape: Interpreting the Big Picture

Join us for the second annual Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist Field Day. This one day event will allow you to obtain your eight hours of continuing education while building your natural history knowledge and interpretive skills. The day features a combination of field and classroom activities as well as an OCVN networking lunch.

Session Descriptions
Three morning sessions will focus on reading different aspects of the landscape: geology, forests, and wetlands. In the afternoon, participants will spend time in the field to delve into more detail about one of these topics. All session will carpool to offsite locations. Field Trips will be assigned on a first-come-first-served basis. Please be sure to list your choices, in order, on the registration form.

Geology – carpool to Beach City Wildlife Area, hike into and around the waterfalls. Instructor: Nigel Brush, Ashland University

Forestry – hike through several forest management sites.
Instructor: Adam Beichler, Wilderness Center Consulting Forestry

Wetlands – explore a wetland/ stream restoration site.
Instructor: Mark Dilley, MAD Scientist Associates, LLC
