COVID-19

We want your visit to The Wilderness Center to be safe and enjoyable. The following information will help you to prepare and know what to expect. We appreciate your continued support and adherence to these necessary safety precautions.

 

Visiting the Nature Center:
The Nature Center is open to visitors Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and Sundays 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Starting December 2020, the Nature Center will remain closed on Sundays until Spring 2021.  Additional hours/days may be added as safety, staffing, and capacity allow. If you are feeling unwell, we ask that you please plan your visit at a later date.

  • Building is closed Mondays for deep cleaning (except for education program access when appropriate)
  • Guest Maximum for upstairs and downstairs lobby area: 35
  • Visitors required to wear a mask in building
  • Social distancing adherence required
  • One-way traffic pattern established through building
  • Hand sanitizer stations available at all entrances and near high touch areas

Additional COVID-19 Safety Precautions:

  • Common areas of building cleaned 2 times a day
  • Increased sanitization schedule for public restrooms and high traffic areas in the building
  • Ceiling fans adjusted so that fans draw air up toward the ceiling rather than down onto occupants
  • Moveable hands-on features removed from exhibit space
  • Equipment and supplies used by more than one person will be sanitized in-between uses
  • Handrails and picnic tables in the pavilion are sprayed with eco-friendly disinfectant three days a week
  • Temporary safety signage on trails and in Interpretive Building to encourage social distancing
  • Visitors will be asked to follow Ohio Safe Reopening Guidelines

 

 I. Ohio Public Health Advisory System County Alert Level: Yellow

  • Interpretive Building open to public
  • Shelters open to public
  • Playscape open to the public.
  • Trails open to the public

Programming and Group Size Limitations

  • Online/virtual: unrestricted size limits
  • Indoor and outdoor programs limited 15 or less including staff, presenters and volunteers.
  • Off site, in-person programming allowed. Group size limited to 15 or less with the exception of school programming as per school protocols.
  • Gift Shop/Welcome Desk staffed during all open hours.

 

II. Ohio Public Health Advisory System County Alert Level: Orange

  • Interpretive Building exhibits and restrooms open to public
  • Shelters open to public with picnic tables appropriately distanced.
  • Playscape open to the public.
  • Trails open to the public

Programming and Group Size Limitations

  • Online/virtual: unrestricted size limits
  • Outdoor programs will be 10 or less including staff, presenters and volunteers
  • Indoor programming and events not allowed.
  • Off site, in-person programming allowed. Group size limited to 10 or less with the exception of school programming as per school protocols.
  • Gift Shop/Welcome Desk staffed during all open hours.

 

III. Ohio Public Health Advisory System County Alert Level: Red

  • Interpretive Building open to public with limited hours and access.
  • Shelters open to the public.
  • Outside Restrooms open to the public with adherence to cleaning schedule.
  • Playscape open to the public.
  • Trails open to the public.

Programming and Group Size Restrictions

  • Online/virtual. No limitations on group size.
  • On site outdoor in-person programming only, limited to 10 or less including staff, presenters and volunteers.
  • Off site, in-person programming allowed. Group size limited to 10 or less with the exception of school programming as per school protocols.
  • Volunteers working with staff outside only and limited to 2 per project. Have volunteers only during peak need.

 

IV. Ohio Public Health Advisory System County Alert Level: Purple

  • Trails open to the public
  • Playscape open to the public unless playgrounds are closed by public order
  • Shelters closed to public
  • Interpretive building closed to the public
  • Outside bathrooms locked, no access

Programming and Group Size Restrictions:

  • Online/Virtual. No limitations on group size
  • No onsite or offsite in-person programming
